Five Point Plan

Health and Safety

Cultivation in Ontario Homes

With respect to the issue of recreational cultivation, OREA supports the Canadian Real Estate Association’s (CREA) position that no personal cultivation of cannabis be allowed inside homes and any provisions related to indoor personal cultivation be removed from the legislation and regulations. This position is also supported by the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations.

Grow Operations In Ontario Homes

Former cannabis grow operations, even on a small scale, can pose significant health and safety issues for unsuspecting home buyers. These risks are often masked by owners of existing grow operations when the property is sold, making it difficult for home buyers and REALTORS® to detect.

Despite the federal government’s move to legalize cannabis, REALTORS® are concerned that illegal large scale cannabis grow operations in residential properties will continue to be a problem in Ontario neighbourhoods.
